Description:
Troutline's Sumo Power thread is a gel-spun polyethylene (GSP) tying thread that is remarkably thin and very strong. It is ideal for tying small flies and maintaining thin fly profiles. Its strength allows it to double as a highly durable ribbing.
Here's what Troutline has to say about it.
Troutline Sumo Tying Thread stands as one of the strongest threads in the fly-tying world, surpassing the strength of Kevlar or Aramid. With a remarkable 15 times greater strength than steel of the same diameter, Sumo thread is a powerhouse in the tying world.
Feature Highlights:
- Easy to split
- Strong and ideal for super small flies
- Perfect for flies with thin bodies
- Easy to wax and dye with a marker
- The thread end is fixed to the orange end of the bobbin
Sumo Technical Thread Details:
- Standard spools
- 100m of spools
- 30DEN
- 18/0
- Breaking strength: 1010 grams for black color, 900 grams for white color
- Multi-filament polyethylene
- Slightly twisted
- Super easy to unravel
This exceptional strength doesn't compromise the thread's diameter, making it perfect for crafting flat and smooth bodies on smaller fly models. Sumo thread, composed of slightly twisted continuous fibers, facilitates the split-thread technique with remarkable ease. Its silky and shiny texture provides versatility, allowing for color customization with permanent markers. Sumo thread is suitable for dry flies, nymphs, wet flies, and streamers.
A significant advantage lies in its application to your fly without adding bulk to the bodies, enabling you to tie smaller flies than before. When crafting dubbing bodies, we recommend using tying wax for enhanced fur adhesion, or alternatively, employing the split thread technique for excellent results.
